Fighting fascism in the United States

This is a more personal entry at Heidi Says than some others. I wanted to share with you what I am doing, day to day, in the hope that I might inspire some of you to try to incorporate the fight against Republican Fascism into your own daily lives.

Speaking against the Trump regime's use of federalized National Guard troops in U.S. cities

Once again, this past Saturday, October 11, 2025, I had the chance to participate in Indivisible Santa Fe's Speakers' Corner. It was a rainy, somewhat chilly day but we had more Indivisible Santa Fe members turn out than the previous, sunny session the Saturday before.

I spent some of my time urging my fellow Santa Feans to use our liberty and our current relative safety to speak out against what the Trump regime is doing in Chicago, Portland, and throughout California, where he and his minions, Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth, and Pam Bondi have installed terroristic federal agents and threatened to put federalized National Guard troops on the streets.

Other participants focused on the importance of participating in this coming weekend's No Kings 2.0 Protests, which will be taking place across America on Saturday, October 18. I have been invited to speak at rally in Valencia County, New Mexico, south of Albuquerque, in a redder part of the state.

This is an honor. I will be discussing the No ICE Without a Judicial Warrant project I designed for Indivisible Santa Fe - a project that is spreading throughout the state, and even beyond. I plan to situate my comments in the broader context of the tradition of American resistance to tyranny, dictators, and authoritarians. Contrary to the current Republican Fascist Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, I do not regard participating in that tradition, at a No Kings event or elsewhere as an indication of hate for America. I cherish these quintessentially American ideas: Every person in the United States is possessed of the deepest human dignity. All are entitled to pursue their lives, their liberty, and their own conception of their good under a government dedicated to ensuring their opportunity to do so. What ensures a government's fealty to protecting individual life and liberty and to serving the general welfare is democratic rule of law.

Please attend a No Kings Rally. Get involved with your local Indivisible group. Start a Speakers' Corner in your town or city. Be visible and vocal in your opposition to fascism in the United States.
